From LEAD Ambassador to Georgia Tech Master’s Graduate: Meet Bryce Johnson

On July 11, Bryce Johnson will return to Georgia Tech’s Russ Chandler Stadium for the 12th Annual Safe at Home Game.

This time, he returns not only as a LEAD Ambassador alumnus, but as a 24-year-old who recently earned his Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering from Georgia Tech.

His journey reflects what LEAD Center For Youth strives to develop every day: Major League Citizens who are gainfully employed, civically engaged, and committed to serving others.

A Decade of Growth

Bryce joined LEAD’s Ambassador Program as a freshman in high school nearly ten years ago.

Along the way, he developed far more than baseball skills. He learned discipline, leadership, communication, goal setting, and perseverance.

One of the most difficult moments of his journey came in 2023 when his father lost his life while saving children from drowning. Bryce shared that grief never fully disappears, but he continues to honor his father’s legacy by living according to the values he taught him.

More Than Baseball

After graduating from North Carolina A&T State University, Bryce earned admission to Georgia Institute of Technology, where he completed his master’s degree in industrial engineering.

Bryce credits LEAD with helping him overcome imposter syndrome and teaching him how to navigate environments where he sometimes felt he didn’t belong.

He also credits LEAD’s focus on measurable growth, accountability, and the 75/20/5 Development Rule:

  • 75% of development happens on your own.
  • 20% happens with coaches, teachers, and mentors.
  • 5% happens during performance.

Those lessons helped him succeed both on and off the field.

Why Safe at Home Matters

Bryce’s first experience at Georgia Tech’s Russ Chandler Stadium came through LEAD’s Safe at Home Game.

Created in response to the killing of Michael Brown, the game was designed to build relationships between Black youth and law enforcement through baseball, conversation, and trust.

For twelve years, the event has demonstrated that meaningful relationships are built when people choose connection over division.

Meet Bryce on July 11

When asked what fans can expect this year, Bryce confidently guaranteed two things:

A base hit.

A stolen base.

We believe he’ll deliver.

More importantly, we hope you’ll come meet him and celebrate what is possible when young people are given opportunity, support, and belief.
